Making Hats for New Year’s Eve

Dear Liza,

The past few years, Auntie Bridgett and I have spent part of New Year’s Eve making silly hats from recycled Christmas paper.

We’ve gotten pretty good at it!

Auntie Bridgett’s hats are always better planned and more neatly finished, but I sure have a good time making mine. Thirty years of classroom crafts give me a lot of confidence.

This year, Bridgett made a carefully measured crown. I decided on a floppy sunhat, using a bowl as a guide for the top of the hat. Tape and Elmer’s glue were in liberal use.

It took some careful snipping, but I think they look great!

Happy New Year! Be brave! Be silly!

Love,

Grandma Judy
